Joyeux Noel et Bonne Année!

I wanted to take a moment to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas that is filled with family and friends. I will see you again in the new year!

Ugly Christmas Sweater Day

Today we celebrated the 9th day of Christmas… UGLY CHRISTMAS SWEATER DAY!

Students coloured their own Christmas sweaters on a shirtless character and wrote a couple of sentences to describe their sweater:

Gingerbread Houses and 3D Snowflakes

Friday the students in 3 FI attempted gingerbread houses.

They were divided up into five groups and each given a gingerbread house, candy and icing.

Having had zero experience creating gingerbread houses myself, I was of absolutely no help to the students.

I did, however, cheer them on and take videos and pictures of their efforts. 😀

We spent most of Friday afternoon learning how to make 3D snowflakes. Lila and Molly taught this lesson and persevered even when it became difficult:

Qui suis-je?

Today we wrapped up our first Question d’enquête (inquiry question) of the year.

We spent a lot of time discussing our visible and invisible differences, our likes and dislikes and what makes us unique.

Our final task was to write a Qui suis-je? (Who am I?) riddle in French. We modelled pieces, did shared writing pieces together as class, and wrote sentences in our notebooks. Students were to take the pieces they wrote to write a devinette (riddle) for their final writing activity.

Today, students revealed themselves! They did a great job and I am very proud of them for completing their first big writing piece of the year.

Bravo, 3 FI! 🙂 🙂 🙂

Christmas Art Day

Friday we celebrated the second day of Christmas at our school. It was CHRISTMAS ART DAY!

We used watercolour paint and sharpie markers to create snowmen in 3 FI. Students did a fantastic job!

Check them out!

Monday, December 7th, is the third day of Christmas and it is SANTA DAY! I hope to see many Santa hats on Monday. 🙂

Tree Ornament

Our school will be celebrating the 12 Days of Christmas for the next three weeks. You can check out the specific days on the December newsletter.

Today was the first day of Christmas – CHRISTMAS ORNAMENT DAY!

I worked hard all weekend thinking of an ornament that would best represent 3 FI. Finally, I had it… A GINORMOUS WARM FUZZY!

Yesterday, as students came into the classroom, I had them pick out warm fuzzies and place them on the ornament where I put a dab of hot glue. It took approximately 176 warm fuzzies to create our ornament. I also printed a picture of the students in 3 FI and hot glued that to our ornament:

Today we hung our classroom decoration onto the school Christmas tree!

Tomorrow is Christmas art day

stay tuned

It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas… In 3 FI!

Yesterday and today we started decorating our classroom with Christmas decorations!

Yesterday morning we painted a Christmas tree to hang up on the wall and today we created aluminum foil ornaments to hang on it. Students also colored presents to put under the tree!

Twin Day and Christmas Cards

Friday we had Twin Day at our school. Check out the twins from the 3 FI classroom! 😉

We also started getting into the Christmas spirit by making cards for our local manor. Students used their fingerprints to create Christmas lights, reindeer and other assorted Christmas images on the front of their cards and wrote messages on the inside. They did a fantastic job and I’m sure the folks at the manor will love them. :-)

Cooperation!

For the past couple of weeks we have been discussing cooperation in our classroom.

Last week we used a balloon to to practice being cooperative. Students were divided into two teams and had to keep the balloon in the air. They also had to work with their team to pass it three times before tapping it to the other side.

BRAVO, 3 FI!

Bookmarks

Last Thursday Halle asked me if she could ask our librarian for a bookmark . I told her that gave me a great idea for a Friday afternoon art lesson!

We used square pieces of paper to fold and create bookmarks for our books!

We followed along with a video to help us (this video is actually a much better video than the one I found to show the students on Friday):

Once students finished folding their paper, they were able to color them and create all sorts of different things.
