Graduation and Remembrance Day Art!

Last week we graduated two more sounds, a few more sight words and another reading strategy.

In art, we did some poppies for Remembrance Day using chalk pastels. It was messy and we all managed to get chalk pastel somewhere on ourselves, but we worked hard and the final products were beautiful. 🙂

Happy Halloween!

Today we had a lot of Halloween fun in 3 FI!

We showed off our costumes…

We did some Halloween art with paint and styrofoam…

We did some French Halloween writing…

We played Halloween Bingo…

And finally did some Trick or Treating! 🙂

I had a fantastic (and exhausting! 😉 ) day in 3 FI! I hope everyone had as much fun as I did. 😀

Graduation # 4 & Some More Perseverance!

This past week we graduated a few more sight words, sounds and a reading strategy to the other side of our room.

We also continued discussions on perseverance. We played a game this week to help us work on our perseverance. The class was divided into two teams, one on each side of the room. Each student had a paper ball to throw onto the other side of the room. Each team was to try and have as few paper balls as possible on their side after one minute. This is a game that could be played outdoors using balls or at home with socks! 🙂

Check it out!

We also had discussions on what our own goals were for the year. We talked about how their goals could be for school or for home. Almost everyone was able to come up with something they were willing to persevere to achieve.

We are going to work hard this year to persevere and never give up to work towards achieving our goals!

Perseverance!

Last week we talked about a lot about perseverance in the 3 FI classroom.

We watched the following videos to support our learning:

A good example of perseverance in our classroom is our weekly message. Each week we introduce a new message. They are always challenging when they are first presented. But we spend time practising them by listening to them being read, repeating sentences, reading as a whole class to finally being able to read them independently with a partner.

Below is a message we worked on last week.

Tables of students read parts of the message. Check out how well they did reading Hubert Hibou and Xavier Lynx’s message!

This week we will continue discussing perseverance and our own personal goals . 🙂

Graduation # 3!

Last Friday we celebrated two sounds (h and x), 9 words (ne, pas, presque, haut, lorsque, parce que, trouver, aujourd’hui and tu) and one reading strategy (identify the sounds you recognize) by graduating them to the other side of our classroom.

Happy Thanksgiving!

This Thanksgiving I am thankful for many things, but I am particularly thankful to have 23 wonderful students. 🙂

Friday we created Thanksgiving turkeys. We used our fingers (and sometimes hands) to smudge chalk pastels to create the turkey feathers using fall colours.

If you’d like a copy of the class picture, send me an email and I will send the picture to you. 🙂

Ensemble, nous sommes…

Last Friday we completed a simple art activity. I gave each student a small puzzle piece. I asked them to color, draw and/or represent themselves on their piece. After school on Friday, when all of the students went home, I assembled the pieces on a bulletin board.

Although it was one of the simplest art activities we will complete this year, it is very symbolic of who we are. We are all unique individuals with different likes and interests. But together, we are 3 FI. 🙂

Graduation Ceremony # 2

Last Wednesday we had our second graduation ceremony of the year.

We celebrated 11 consonants (b, d, f/ph, p, t, l, m, n, r, v,  and z), six words of the week (le, la, les, quand, quoi, vos, nous) and one reading strategy (look at the beginning, middle and end of a word).

Once again, it was a wonderful ceremony:

We look forward to our third ceremony on Friday! 🙂

Empathy

This week we spent a lot of time discussing empathy in our classroom.

At the beginning of the week, we were confused and not sure what it meant.

But we watched many videos and looked at many pictures that helped us figure it out. We learned that empathy means the ability to understand and share the feelings of another. These are the videos we watched to support our learning:

The last video caused a dance party to break out in 3 FI:

I hope everyone enjoys their weekend after such a busy week of learning! 🙂
